Site specific installation in Waschhaus Potsdam, June 1998
The „Russian Hall“ of the Waschhaus in Potsdam is a large room about 1000 sqm. It was used during the Kaiser Wilhelm period and later on for military purposes (cavallery, military vehicles). The mood of the room is characterized by decay and the memory of its history.
On the floor of the room flat red paper sculptures are arranged. They are 30cm high, almost round and have a diameter of 140 cm. All objects are lacquered red and each is fastened with 10 metal handles on its perimeter.
The colored objects which are placed in disarray in the entrance area gradually move into exact military rows as they reach the back of the hall.
Note: these objects were used one year later for the performance “Red Cells”
